Almost all heroin users start first with prescription opioid pills often taken from those with legal prescriptions (poppy plants for legal opioid pills are grown by a Johnson and Johnson subsidiary in Tasmania btw)... thats the broader issue, and they werent always so widely available. I wrote a five-part investigative series for the Waukesha Freeman newspaper this summer that explains the history of the heroin epidemic here.
