This is a great blog post by my friend Alex from Liverpool. Its frank and honest. Proper heart on sleeve stuff. Hes a really lovely bloke and a beast in the ring and trains some awesome fighters. He has offered to help Redkite fighters when they need to spar with others than those from our gym and has already worked with Alpas before his last fight. Have a read. Very inspirational. ;-) I wrote this blog a few days ago and chose to keep it to myself however Vinny Shoreman inspired me to post it today with his inspirational blog on the eve of the weigh in for the biggest show ever to hit the UK.. I miss fighting so much, done a few exhibitions here n there but this time 3 years ago I had 2 weeks left of what was my last proper fight training camp with Mark Cannon to fight on the First ever HGH Show by Liam & Andy and properly represent Masda, My own gym for the first time since opening. I fought and won the ISKA Heavyweight Title against a former great heavyweight champion himself and now my good pal Glen.. I can’t believe how time has flown, so much has happened and so much has changed in the last 3 years... At the moment with so much work and responsibility to contend with I can only dream of finding the time to go through a full training camp again and compete at a good level but at 31 I wouldnt say its out of reach... I think the time away teaching, coaching and learning new things would serve me well... I have never said I have officially retired so you never know but 3 years on and after 3 serious injuries and 2 operations who knows what could happen... I just know I miss that buzz more than anything in the world... I still remember my first fight like it was yesterday, taking a typically short notice fight, I never had time to be nervous just had to get in there and have go, I remember afterwards even though I lost it was close on a split decision in Wales I just wanted to do it again especially after watching the main event of the day which was Eugene Valerio and I remember hearing people say backstage he was past it but he just proved he wasnt as he knocked a talented young man out cold with one of the best overhand rights I have still ever seen.. After the fight I remember Simon telling me he was proud of me, that was a great feeling even though because it was my first fight he probably had to say that lol It still made me want to get straight back in to have another go a month or so later when I fought a more experienced fighter and was getting a proper beating for 2 rounds and after Andyboy slapping me so hard in the corner and winding me right up I knocked the guy out in the 3rd. I used to join in the odd interclub but Si told me I didnt quite get the concept of the demo so I couldnt do them anymore lol ... Apart from winning a professional heavyweight title One of my biggest honours is to have shared the ring with my now business partner and one of my best friends Christian Knowles.. Chris was at the time the UK Number 1 a world champion & had recently shared the ring with legends like Gokhan Saki and Andrew Peck... Chris was the first person to ever stop me and I was so upset after that fight but it only made me stronger... The rest is history and I am so thankful for all my experiences in the ring there really is no feeling like it.. Its taught me so much, taken me all over the world as a fighter and a coach and through all this I have been through privately some of the toughest battles in my life outside the ring and its Fighting and Training that played a big part in getting me through it all to the point where only the people closest to me would ever have known.. I am truly blessed when I think about it with the people I have around me in my life especially my amazing girl and beautiful baby boy, as well as some of the best friends i could wish for, but I do have a burning desire, a flame that I dont feel is ready to be put out, I rarely talk about it and when I do it all comes pouring out like now , especially when you see all the warriors in the UK preparing for the blessing that Brizo from supershowdown has brought to the north west this Saturday... Would I ever do it again? Not right now but who knows what the future holds, stranger things have happened. Alex
