This is a hard story to read. I was raised in church on this property from the time I was eleven until we sold the property to this new church when I was twenty-eight. I was baptized at seventeen in the waters that overlooked this casket. Im afraid in the Christian church we have stood for beliefs at the expense of losing the heart of Jesus. We have lost the ability to differentiate between compromise and compassion. We have become so busy running our internal programs that we have missed the heartbeat of a grieving community. We are quick to make money from external groups but weve dont even have the common courtesy to take the hit when a mistake is made (why we charge hurting people to use Gods house still befuddles me). We have become more concerned about staining our sanctuaries than looking at our own stained hearts. Weve worshipped our buildings and desecrated our neighborhoods. God help us.
