This is a letter Hugh Newsom posted a couple days ago, the petition he speaks of is now ready for signatures at the link posted below, if you like most of us in Tennessee have followed these two families and would like to stand with them, here is one opportunity to support them. Sign and share. The letter from Hugh Newsom: WELL HELLO AGAIN!!!!!!, As most of you realize, Im not on Facebook daily. Today I have something which I consider very important to pass along to you. As most of you know there were 4 people prosecuted on the State Level and sent to prison concerning the Carjacking, Kidnapping, Beating, Rape, and Murder of Chris & Channon, one of them being Venessa Coleman. We were contacted this week and advised that she is coming up for a parole hearing in October. To say the least we were shocked. She was sentenced to 35 years, however we were aware that a convict only has to serve 30% of the sentence which computes to approx.10.5 years, with time in jail before and during the trials counting as good time. When I inquired how this could happen, I was advised that if they report back to their,Dormitory Room, there is no cell, for bedcheck and otherwise behave they are awarded 16 days every month off their sentence. This amounts to 192 days a year. As you can imagine Mary and I were shocked. No one at the County or State level advised us of this. There will be an opportunity for each of you to write a letter/e-mail to the Parole Board, or maybe an on-line petition. I will return at a later date to provide addresses & etc. once I am given them. In the meantime after the election I would urge you to contact your State Senator/Representative and if you have a concern, Voice It.
