This is a letter I have just written to our local politician ; Bottled water facility in Broome I am an Australian artist who has been blessed with experiencing 7 countries this year, completing 2 international exhibitions and 2 arts residencies. Whilst attending these countries all in Asia I realised what a valuable commodity water is. Everyone in Asia uses giant bottled water predominantly Nestle and researching further I know that it is worth more than fuel. Living in Broome on the edge of the Kimberley I know that I sit on some of the world’s oldest, cleanest water in the world. Great basins of beautiful clean water that is facing pollution by Fracking and is being drain to facilitate massive offshore oil rigs and this knowledge led me to an idea which I would like to offer. Our Western Australian Govt should make an investment into a bottled water plant here in Broome. A very large one as there are 1.35 Billion Chinese all drinking bottled water and the rest of Asia as well. If our Govt were to invest in this business from idea to commercial business venture and run it to generate income as an asset for the State, then they would have the edge on the rest of the world in pricing as they own the water! There is only the cost of extraction and bottling, one up on the competition ie: Nestle. We must keep reminding ourselves that bottled water is worth more than petrol per litre. This is big money. Bigger than fracking and LNG. Our Govt then would enlist Qantas, a company that it has ‘propped’ up with Australian Tax payers funds and I would expect could get a good deal, to fly the water from Broome to Singapore in its cargo hull, whilst flying tourists in and out of Broome to Singapore. I recently went to an AGM of Australia’s North West Tourism who have won many Australian Awards this year for their marketing in tourism and would be brilliant at marketing the flights and filling the Qantas seats. Win win for both Qantas, Broome and the Kimberley region. I also can see that this bottled water business would be an asset here in the Kimberley as employment for the 18 – 25 year old demographic in training ventures. This one single venture would get you elected at the next elections if it’s marketed to perfection. You are investing in creating wealth for our Nation by a viable business venture. Managed properly you will be able to market the protection of our water and relinquish the prostitution of it to Fracking and freely draining it away to support the giant oil rigs of the coast , which let’s face it is really placing a lot of mud on your faces. Broome and the Kimberley towns will boom with tourism and new investments will be attracted via the new flights. Training of our young, investment in their future, wealth creation, new employment and the gift of being innovative will all be held in high regard by electors. Fly in, Fly out will diminish on a new path of putting families first, a definite marketing advantage in an election. I must illustrate that giving our water away to mining is a crime and I think it will be seen as such in future years. It is more valuable than fuel and what I have illustrated can be achieved.
