This is a little more than an hour long. It would be unfair to describe the discussion in a few short sentences. We live in a world that is swirling with communications from Tweets to Blogs, and Vlogs. Many of us have personal websites, Facebook pages, pages on Ancestry, and LinkedIn profiles. We participate in Webinars, collaborate in Google Groups, and use Google Docs and Dropbox to work on joint projects. Some of us are publishing and selling our stories on Blurb and a host of other sites. We subscribe online to local newspapers, national news magazines, and have customized electronic bookshelves loaded with virtual books and magazines. In essence, we read and write more than we have ever done before Internet stepped in and changed the landscape. As I watched this discussion and debate, I used our recent consternation with problems in our school district as the lens or filter for analyzing the information these people shared. With that, I found gems of wisdom throughout the video, even to the very end, that shed light on what is probably our greatest weakness and probably the most significant change we need to make that would have the most meaningful impact on the lives and futures of our students and, eventually, on our community. A well supported and robust writing (and I am not able to find the right descriptor) program, in my opinion, is the key element in moving us forward. We need to begin the conversation on what this would look like and how it would behave. It is much more than pluging in a writing curriculum for one set of teachers to handle. It has to be pervasive, open, ubiquitous,...transparent. Those of you who are much smarter than I... and maybe much younger than I :-) get this. Where and when can we begin this discussion ? I hope you enjoy the video. RSA has a pile of great presentations on YouTube. BTW... It would be interesting to read your comments, especially as they relate to the filters you used in viewing the discussion.
