This is a middle age saddlebred gelding that presented to the clinic with a history of slight lameness due to hoof wall separation only on his left front foot. Upon further evaluation it was obvious he was suffering from white line disease, which occurs secondary to the hoof wall separation allowing opportunistic bacteria/fungi to invade the inner hoof wall. The attachment between the the hoof and the coffin bone was compromise with evidence of rotation (foundering) on the radiograph. Debridement of all the diseased hoof wall material exposing the affected area to air/oxygen , and oxychlorine base foot soaks to kill the bacteria/fungi were performed . Follow up pictures of the therapeutic shoe to provide support and protection will be provided soon. The horse seems to be responding to all treatments and seems quite comfortable .
