This is a particularly special seminar as two of our own will be talking about their summer research experiences along with the coordinator of the program. Please join us Monday at 4 pm in MSEC 105 when Michael Gonzalez, coordinator for the SoyMap II Summer Research Program (soymap.org) will explain the program in his talk "Using Biology, Math and Computers to Make New Discoveries: Summer Research Opportunities in Bioinformatics, Genomics and Molecular Biology." Two participating Tech students from Summer 2013 will also present on their projects. Kayla Engstrom will discuss "GC3 Content Zea Mays: Exploring GC3 Content in Maize and its Relationship to Other Genomic Parameters." Jonathan Tsosie will present "Influence of Transposable Elements on the Structure and Function of the Glycine Max Genome." Michael Gonzalez will also be looking for undergraduate students to conduct research in the areas of plant genomics, molecular biology, bioinformatics and computer science for next summer.
