This is a perfect example of something I see in Corporate America - TopicsExpress

This is a perfect example of something I see in Corporate America where people have these fairly narrow ways of classifying people on a superficial level without looking past the immediate. The article is fine about whether you want to use a briefcase or not, but this passage makes me nuts: Should a man wearing a suit carry a proper, equivalently formal, ergo, style-appropriate, briefcase? said Alan Flusser, a custom tailor and author of Dressing the Man: Mastering the Art of Permanent Fashion. If hes interested in projecting an in-command, finished look, I would opt for yes. Thirty-six-year-old Cliff Moskowitz, who owns a private-equity firm in New York, put it more directly: If a guy has a gym bag, I assume hes going to the gym. If he has a backpack, I assume he doesnt care. And people wonder why talent gets missed. If less time is spent on briefcases vs. backpacks and whether someone attended the right school and more time on whether someone has the ability to excel, we all might be better off. Do we all have biases and prejudices and preconceived notions? Yes. Every single one of us. But if you expend zero effort in self-reflection to challenge yourself on these points, then youre missing out on potential great employees, friends and life experiences. But hey, Im nutty like that.
