This is a plea from a nurse anesthesia student, Francis Bicol from Union University Nurse Anesthesia Program as a direct quote from his Facebook page…Please donate to the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Catholic Services, Direct Relief, or the organization below on behalf of the survivors from the typhoon in the Phillipines almost a week ago. As you may know already, Super Typhoon Haiyan devastated Tacloban City. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) assessed the system as a Category 5-equivalent super typhoon on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale. It was three times stronger than Hurricane Katrina. A storm surge washed out and drowned thousands of people. Of the 200,000 residents, many are still unaccounted for – which include my relatives, friends, teachers, and people close to me. It took five agonizing days before I heard the news that my MOM, DAD, and younger BRO are all alive. It provided me a great sense of relief knowing they are in good condition. But the agony does not end here. I need to help them. WE need to help them! I cannot just sit and assume that everything will be okay. I need to do something. It breaks my heart every time I hear the news about my beloved hometown. My fellow Taclobanons are crying for help. They are hungry, thirsty, homeless, and emotionally traumatized. They struggle to survive. We need to act now before it is too late. My older brother is enroute to Tacloban to help my family and our fellows. I hope to raise funds to provide help to the survivors. My brother and I will use the fund to buy water, food, medicines, and medical supplies. I have collaborated with Red Cross Tacloban Chapter in the delivery of your donations. We can make a huge impact in the lives of the Taclobanons. Thank you! Please be kind to share on your Facebook wall. God bless! gfwd.at/17UulY8
