This is a relatively long post to share, but take the time to read every word of it. Why? Because its true. Ive had the honor to work with law enforcement on more than one occasion and see the kind of abuse & disrespect they so often endure from a society thats lost its comprehension of the word dignity. Deepest respects & heartfelt gratitude to my friends & brethren who serve the rest of us by standing on that Thin Blue Line. Like the parents of a petulant child who go to bed heartbroken about the struggles they had to merely keep a resentful & rebellious youth from self-destruction, so often do our LEOs drive home at the end of watch with hearts full of despair. And yet they return to the job when their shift starts anew with hope & dedication. For those of you who are anti-establishment, I get it. I respect your position. Just dont bother sharing it here. Ive been given speeding tickets that I KNOW were a crock of shit. Ive been sprawled out face-down on a wet street with cops surrounding me with shotguns trained on me all because of a case of mistaken identity. AND Ive seen how being respectful in that kind of situation and keeping a calm voice will almost always result in an apology from honest officers. There are always idiots in EVERY field, but we as a nation need to make sure we dont act in ways that justify the actions of idiots by being idiotic ourselves. If you choose to escalate a situation where the police confront you, and it goes south, YOU CHOSE to make the situation worse than it needed to be. In self-defense, any instructor with a minimum of 2 brain cells should advise you that defusing & de-escalating the situation is your primary goal. So instead of screaming an N.W.A. track, puffing out your chest like a poser, and then crying immediately after your bravado lands you in hot water, why dont you try obeying the law, being honest with yourself and others when you dont obey the law, and then conciliatory when theres a consequence? You might just find that doing so creates exactly the kind of respectful, smoothly functioning world that youre so busy blaming others for breaking.
