This is a repeat Friday. Learning to drive “three on a tree” - TopicsExpress

This is a repeat Friday. Learning to drive “three on a tree” was so much fun for us kids as we were growing up. Now some of you are probably asking for the question, what in the world is three on a tree? My how times have changed. There was actually a time when a car had manual gears and the shifter was on the right side of the steering column. ( this is for the younger people who read these posts). The car had a clutch, brake peddle, and gas peddle. To drive a car with standard shift took a little coordination and learning how and when to press and release the clutch as a person pushed the gas peddle. If the sequence wasn’t just right, the car would jump, jerk, and bounce around and most of the time, the engine would stop. Learning to use the clutch and gas peddle was just the beginning for a person had to know the gear ratio also. What position was first gear, then second and third, and of course where was reverse and neutral. Starting off in first gear and knowing when to shift to second and third took a lot of practice. If a the gears weren’t shifted at the right time it would affect the speed of the car. It seemed like there was so much to learn from using the clutch, pressing the gas peddle just enough to get the vehicle going, and then knowing the gear ratio and learning when and how to shift from gear to gear. There were those times when the gears would grind and at times they would get stuck but the more a person drove a “three on a tree” they realized it was just a part of life to get our mode of transportation going. On this journey called Life, it seems at times there is so much to learn day in and day out to get our lives going at times. There are those times of jerking and bouncing around because things are out of sequence in and around our lives. It seems as if the gear ratio is not what it should be or we have slipped into reverse. Sometimes, it feels as if we are stalled in neutral and going absolutely nowhere. Could it be that it is time to sit a moment and reevaluate what is going on all around us and make sure we know the gear ratio for our life? If we are wise, we will take a look at the Owner’s Manual to make sure what we are doing is correct, and remember.. there is …More to Come.. Didn’t know you had an Owner’s Manual” for your life? Let me know, I will help you find it.
