This is a response to the viral video against social media: I - TopicsExpress

This is a response to the viral video against social media: I dont like, agree with, or even understand the current trend of bashing cellphones and/or social media. These devices act as the very outlet for you to express your opinion, but your choosing to express the opinion that this is somehow negative? (Granted, reading some peoples opinions can be a negative experience, but its not an inherent negative of the action). If you want to protest against social media, then using social media to progress your agenda is counterproductive. While you may think you need to address your audience at their level, an in person conversation would make your message more effective. Whats that? You cant have an in person conversation with everyone? Herein lies the insensitivity of your argument. Cellphones and social media help millions of people connect with others that they would not normally be able to. For instance, while my father was in Afghanistan, we could only communicate with him via Skype. Others have loved ones they can only reach by text or call. To suggest that in order to experience real life one must shun technology is to suggest that these loved ones are not as important as people you can physically be around. Now, its not that your argument is completely inaccurate. What you mean to say is that people should limit their time they spend on these devices. However, you are literally saying that people should limit their communication with their loved ones. Instead, you should stress the importance of personal connections, and in no way blame or degrade inanimate objects. tl;dr - your argument is dumb. Also, this is to no one specific expect perhaps the guy who made the video. /rant
