This is a solemn, sober time of reflection, repentance, and submission. The classic picture of this is given in the book of Leviticus, as the Lord spoke to Moses giving him the particular details of consecrating Aaron and his sons to be the priests of God. This can be found in Leviticus 8:18-28 Note the specific directions he gave for anointing them in 8:23, “And he slew it, and Moses took of the blood of it, and put it upon the tip of Aarons right ear, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot.” The ear to hear the word of the Lord. The thumb to do the will of the Lord. The toe to walk in the path of righteousness
