The context placing this war as part of the long-term campaign to keep control over Palestinian lives rather than protecting Israeli ones. The proof: This exact scenario has happened 3 times in 7 years, and the rockets keep falling. The context recognizing the best way to delegitimize Hamas / other radical elements of Palestinian society is to make a meaningful peace with the moderate Palestinian leadership. The proof: Peace agreements with Egypt and Jordan have lasted decades. The context of Bibis continued support for The 47-Year-Long Occupation despite his public acceptance of the two state solution in 2009. The Proof: Not putting that acceptance in his own partys platform, allowing politicians who explicitly oppose that acceptance be leaders of his party and government, and the doubling of funding for settlements. The context of the American Jewish Leaderships faux support for the two state solution allowing them to view The 47-Year-Long Occupation as temporary, to hold up Israel as a true democracy, and to keep the upper hand over Palestinians. The proof (and here Ill just quote Peter, cause its that good): Had Mahmoud Abbas declared that because of this week’s Gaza War he no longer supports the two state solution, American Jewish groups would have screamed with fury. But when Netanyahu does the same thing, they say nothing. As of Monday afternoon, in fact, not a single major American Jewish group had even commented on Netanyahu’s about-face. #doublestandard anyone? This war and the Israeli political leadership is utter bullshit. Unfortunately, the people caught in the middle dont have power to change it. And the ones who do have power -- American Jewish and Political leaders -- refuse to use that power responsibly.
