This is a status of a high school teacher in Ocean county. A friend of mine posted her friends (Michael) status on her wall. This is part of a growing consensus of teachers who feel they can no longer just teach their kids. My heart breaks for this teacher. But if we all stand together - anything is possible................. Dear Governor Christie, You win. Today I had a half day because my district, a place Ive grown as a teacher and, more importantly, a person, believes, to their credit, I need time to prepare for parcc. So instead of teaching my students problem solving skills, my colleagues and I observed practice questions. For the first time I looked at a test and believed it had one purpose: to make kids believe they arent good enough. When people have asked me what I teach, I say students. The math has always been secondary. Today a small part of that died. I, along with a great many of my colleagues, will continue fighting the fight. However, I cannot compete with your resources and influence. So, you win. I hope you and all your friends who have something to gain from this process feel vindicated. Best of luck, Michael D.
