This is a strange confession, but sometimes I visualize my battle between my inner writing demon (crippling self-doubt) and my inner writing angel (the will to get that shitty first draft on paper) as a fight between King Kong and a dinosaur. For some unknown reason, this helps (maybe because it shifts the goal to being Just-Not-Dying, as opposed to MacArthur Genius Grant-worthy). Save me, shitty first draft!
