This is a terrific article on the state of the Irish music industry. Basically, such a thing doesnt exist and any illusion of one that does is a money-grubbing, play-safe attempt to capitalise on current trends with little consideration to artistry or even band/career security. The Thrills biggest hit was Whatever Happened to Corey Haim?; well, whatever happened to the Thrills? Whatever happened to Humanzi, to Director or to countless other Irish bands who were dumped as soon as revenue streams started losing their profitability? Business being business, I suppose, but its depressing to look around at all these hugely promising local bands who are crafting an innovative and adventurous musical culture that sits all around you but is unlikely to find broader support because the musical infrastructure is severely lacking.
