This is a tragic message for that powerhouse, Pradeep Nath, the Founder of VSPCA. Cyclone HudHud has wreaked havoc on the shelter, Kindness Farm, Kindness Mobile Restaurants etc. . . This is his interim report Dear Phil, Will send more detailed one later after all assessment. It was shocking ! I was trying through my laptop since night but not working as Reliance connection seems gone. I am doing from the office through the VSNL which seems ok. But since there is no power which may take another 4 days to restore managing vide the small genset. There is no mobile services too. My IDEA network is not working since yesterday night. Even most of the others too. Maybe the landline only. My house landline 08912564759 and office 08912716124 still works with some problems. I am sorry I could not get back soon on this. I am terribly depressed at the destructions that has happened to our Shelter 1 and The Kindness Farm. The entire greenery disappeared as all trees have been uprooted and thrown and scattered. All the dog kennels in the ABC section and the quarantine, Special needs and the resident ones have been blown away leaving open to the sky. Goshala sheds 4 numbers that can accommodate 300 cattle the top asbestos sheets have simply been blown away. The wildlife sections have also received extensive damage. As for the Kindness Farm initial reports say very bad damages. But I am not getting a first report from Raj the Shelter Manager because all communication lines are not working. I hear from one of the village workers who came to Shelter 1. The outreach we have begun from yesterday night itself looking for the vulnerable ones and have started our treatment works but we are unable to take all of the serious ones as the Shelters are itself not in a position to restore health. The birds areas are also very affected. A complete assessment is being done. In shelter 1 so far we lost 2 old cattle and 2 parakeets. 1 dog is missing so far. A complete accurate assessment can be done after a few days. The transport is affected badly because 90 % of all roads are blocked with fallen trees. 90% of all sign boards have been blown away causing immense risk and threat to the lives of everyone on the road as well when fallen on houses. We had a miraculous escape when a seven foot length and 3 feet width sign board with sharp edges and 8 tubelights came tumbling from the sky and fell on my house dislodging the tiles completely and then fell on the roof and then fell down to the ground floor and I was going in and out and so also our people running in and out at that moment. Tubelights and glasses are all over visakha. There have been many building collapses, water loggings, extensive damages to the vehicles. I still do not know the entire facts and figures in the villages where we had been announcing to release the animals and take them to the disaster buildings and this was allowed by NDRF. Not sure how many farmers have followed this. Visakha is flat for now. No milk, no water, no power, no proper routes nothing. Every worker working with us has a story of their house damages and hence not coming to work. SO we are very short of cleaning workers mostly. Every essential commodity has suddenly become rare with astronomical rates. Today am the only one in the office too. I need all support possible to get back and move forward. I am very disappointed , shattered and speechless witnessing the 185 kmps right at my door with the waves riding above 3 metres peaking and we are 2 kms from there. Everytime Visakha has these cyclones but not so directly hit. This was just horrible. I am speechless. Need time to rework my brain. But will come back stronger. I certainly think that our policy should be in coastal areas and cyclone areas all buildings should be of RCC roofing eventhough it is 3 times costlier than the other options. Otherwise there is no safety and all loss. Kind regards. Pradeep Kumar Nath,
