This is a very good column. The extremist group that Alan cited in his column was founded around Raymond Luc Levasseur, a Maine disenchanted Vietnam veteran. This group SCAR (Statewide Correctional Reform Alliance) bombed CMP headquarters, robbed banks and a LeVasseur associate shot and killed a N.J. State Trooper. Alan did in fact split with LeVasseurs group, which actually engaged in domestic terrorism. I and John Lovell, retired Portland Press Herald, covered the trial of two LeVasseur associates who were arrested on their way to the Portsmouth-Kittery Naval Shipyard with plans to blow up a nuclear submarine on display for the 1976 bicentennial. So, the record does show that domestic terrorism did at one time exist in Maine. For the record, let me say Paul LePage has said stupid things and done stupid things. But meeting with a bunch of old farts from Aroostook County pissed off about big government hardly compares to exploding a bomb in CMPs headquarters and planning to blow up a nuclear submarine full of civilian visitors on July 4th. One last footnote. Mike Tipping may have elected Eliot Cutler the next governor of Maine. I doubt that was his intention.
