This is a very rational response to the release of the CIA torture - TopicsExpress

This is a very rational response to the release of the CIA torture report. Its by Anthony Romero who is the head of the ACLU. Its a reminder that intelligent, moral not only can change their minds, but often should. After all, we need conversations based on the truth about things like torture and Reagans collusion with Saddam Hussein. War crimes have sent us to war in the past, so how could Americans consider allowing our leaders to commit war crimes in the name of America? The legal history of water boarding, for example, is clear: All we have to do is look to the trials of every foreign national who was tried for water boarding Americans. (By the way: We executed them. Dont believe it? Ask Japan, or, better, check American history.) But Romero isnt looking for past justice, but rather to curtail future torture and help create a landscape of transparency in America. What could be more rational than that? nytimes/2014/12/09/opinion/pardon-bush-and-those-who-tortured.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=c-column-top-span-region®ion=c-column-top-span-region&WT.nav=c-column-top-span-region&_r=0
