This is a very valid point, especially when one considers the impact the cosmetics industry has on women rather than in spite of it. Women who wear makeup are not liars, they are not charlatans. They are people who feel more confident when they accentuate their features and disguise faults that other judge them for. We can do this with resumes, campaign speeches, photo ops, and interviews when we are discussing our personalities, viewpoints, body shapes, and careers. Why, then, are we attacked for doing the same for our facial features? I choose not to wear makeup. I do this for a number of reasons which are mine and no one elses. But I do not fault women who wear makeup. Occasionally, I do joke about my perceived hilarity towards those that are obvious in their cosmetics to the point of over-application. However, this has never meant to be harmful, merely friendly teasing about a concept that I understand but do not agree with. Being makeup free helps me feel beautiful. And I know many others where the opposite is true. We are free to make our own standards of beauty, to make our own choice of what we wear and apply in pursuit of that beauty. Never deny a woman the opportunity to express her beauty to you. Because if you carelessly disregard her outer self, you will never know what lies beneath the surface.
