This is a video about the Battle of Wanat (Afghnistan) on July 13, 2008, where 9 of our brave solders were killed including Lt. Jonathan Brostrom. My cousin, CPT Brandon Kenedy, offers insight to the history and nature of the unit and terrain as he was a platoon leader in a sister company at the time and led a quick response force to the battle arriving just hours after the main fighting. Brostrom and Kennedy were best friends and Kennedy accompanied Brostroms remains back to his home in Hawaii. MAJ John Carson, Professor of Military Science, University of Hawaii, led UH ROTC cadets through a virtual staff ride of the Battle of Wanat. Developed by the Combat Studies Institute at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, this VSR takes students all around the battlefield, explains how conditions were set, and explores the outcomes. Mission Training Complex - Hawaii developed a 3D capability using the VBS2... gaming simulation platform to virtually take students through the valleys, obstacles and fighting positions held by enemy and friendly forces. The Battle of Wanat has special meaning to Warrior Battalion as the platoon leader, 1LT Jonathan Brostrom, a University of Hawaii Army ROTC graduate, was lost that day with 8 other men from his platoon. The Battle of Wanat On July 13th, 2008, Taliban guerilla forces attacked a remote outpost in the village of Wanat, Nuristan Province, Afghanistan. Despite being surrounded and outnumbered, 2PLT, C CO, 2-503 IR, 173rd Airborne Brigade bravely repelled the attack with the support of artillary and aircraft. Nine US soldiers were killed and twenty-seven wounded.
