This is a view of Branchburg few will recognize, but Ive got to post it for miz Dana Dana Kawalautzki Lauducci. I found this old pic Id taken as a kid, when I was experimenting with photography. Its a place that meant a lot, a peaceful, naturally manicured-looking wooded glen next to the 35 acres my folks had across the road from the Staats farm. This is the little creek that runs east from Readington Road, about four blocks north of Harlan School Road, into Chambers Brook. It was lovely, even sublime in a way I cant describe and this poor little pic doesnt either. Its where I first really started learning about the world, certainly about nature. I had books that would help me identify the turtles, the frogs, the wild mint, milkweed, and even the skunk cabbage that grew there in abundance. Only a few feet back from here, where the two streams meet, is where my favorite climbing tree was- a hump-backed old sycamore that got knocked down by hurricane Donna back in 64. And that, folks, concludes my sentimental rambling for the evening. Ha!
