This is a view of the old Melbourne Brewery that was situated on Regent Street. The office building on the right was The British Gas building on Bridge Street. Gower Street School can be seen in the bottom left hand corner, with the tower blocks at Lincoln Green to be seen in the distance. Despite being out of existence since 1960, reminders of Melbourne Ales can still be seen dotted about the City. This much missed Leeds brew was considered the finest ale in Leeds at the time. Melbourne Ales was bought out by Tetleys in 1960. It appears that Tetleys used the Melbourne Brewery until its closure judging by their Huntsman sign on the building. The Melbourne brewerys logo was a Georgian style courtier doffing his hat in a gesture of welcome. Examples of stained glass, signs, and tiled mosaics can still be seen around Leeds.
