This is a well written counter point to the New Yorkers review of the series finale. Their obsession with details of the cult of the Yellow King totally missed the point. The story was about the people and their lives, for better or worse, as the case unfolded over more than a decade. Usually in a work of fiction the reader/viewer is introduced to a character to root for or at least identify with. The difficulty in doing that, as all the characters flaws unfurled as the series progressed was what I found most intriguing about the show.
