This is about my wonderful dog Mocca and is for my great and longtime friend Sally G Raburn. Man, we went through the WAR together, me and Sally. Reda and me had some sort of problem, I cant remember what. Anyway, it was decided that I should get away for a period of time, you know, sort things out in my head, etc. I was going to drive Mike Haley to Albuquerque, stay maybe a couple of weeks, possibly longer. We got a drive away car. I used to do that all the time, I dont know if they still do it. You would essentially deliver a car, most likely a repo, to another city. Sometimes they would pay the gas, or at least part of it. I got there, the job I was supposed to have didnt pan out. So, there I was in that hellish town, broke, my true love far away. Dear friends, I was lovesick, God in heaven, I wanted to come home. Reda sent me bus fare, bless her heart and told me she had a great present for me, to please hurry home. Its hard to hurry home on a Greyhound but I did my best. Let me digress for just a second. I met a guy on the bus that lived in the Haight starting in the early sixties to around 1973. This guy was a true warrior of the psychedelic culture. He filled my head with pithy stories of life in the Haight, He told stories about Super Spade, Chocolate George, Sweet William, Janis, Owsley, the Trips Festival, Keasy, NEAL CASSADY! He knew Neal. Dear friends, I remember it all and I promise to tell his story one day. Okay, back on track. After a brutal bus trip, I get home, Reda picked me up. Young lovers, torn apart, now reunited, it was quite a reunion. All the way home shes telling me about this wonderful surprise. Im tired but Im starting to get excited. What could this be? We get home and she points to this box on the floor. I looked in, I honestly had no idea what it was, I thought maybe it was a wolverine. I said, What is it? She said, Its a dog, half Chihuahua and half poodle. Folks, it didnt look like no dog Ive ever seen. I was half convinced she had gone around the bend in my absence. I said, Are you sure its a dog? She laughed, took him out of the box, he would scurry along about a foot, shit, pee, the repeat the process. She handed him to me, and the damnedest thing happened, it was love at first sight. God I loved that little dog. At that moment, we bonded, we were best friends as long as he was here. He lived to be seventeen. God never made an uglier dog or a sweeter dog. My precious Mocca.
