This is admittedly insider baseball for the online news industry, BUT heres my conspiracy theory/win over The Globe today. A local biotech firm Moderna Therapeutics announced the biggest venture capital investment EVER today at 3 pm. I didnt have the news under embargo but clearly two of my biggest competitors (The Globe and Xconomy) did, since they published articles right at 3 containing live interviews. Why would any company make such a major announcement at 3 pm on a Monday? Since there were no foreign companies/time zones involved, I have to assume it was a deal forged with The Globe timed to come out AFTER my biotech newsletter is sent out at 2:30, ie, timed to screw me personally. However, I was lucky enough to have someone alert me immediately, I wrote a quick article and posted it, and my company sent out a breaking news alert to get as many people to read it as possible so it shows up in search engines. As a result, I just did a Google News Search for the name of the company and MY article shows up just above the Globes.
