This is an amazing book, anything Bakhtin put his hand to is of interest to me, to be honest. The novel, compared to the epic poem, for example, is a relatively new form of writing in literature and this wholly original and convincing work treats the dialogue which goes on between the two. I found it an invaluable work in attempting to understand a form of writing which has given me the most trouble; I am currently working on my seventh attempt at trying to write a novel and I think I have finally cracked it this time. The key, for me, was having an equalling strong subplot in order to bounce the main events off of - a dialogue must exist between the two. Many thanks for the advice Mikhail!
