This is an email from Kate at Doc Hastings office - if you want to share, copy and paste, otherwise you will just share the Facebook icon for Hastings Lori, I wanted to provide you with a brief update. Last night, Governor Inslee made a verbal request for an emergency disaster proclamation for Okanogan and Chelan counties and the Colville reservation. Congressman Hastings joined with the Senators and Congressman Reichert in sending the enclosed letter to FEMA supporting this request last night, which was granted early this morning. However, it is important to note that this frees up federal aid for efforts directly related to saving lives, protecting public health and property, emergency communications and emergency transportation. This includes things like provisions of shelters or emergency care, provision of food and water, removal of health and safety hazards, and emergency repairs. The Governor must still submit requests for the Public Assistance Program, which would allow for federal assistance for the cleanup and repair of public and nonprofit buildings, and the Individual Assistance Program, which would provide direct federal aid to individuals impacted by the disaster. Congressman Hastings remains in continual contact both with FEMA and the Governor’s office and will continue to actively support efforts to ensure that these local communities secure access to the resources they need. In the meantime, while you have likely already seen this, here is another good resource for locations of aid distribution centers. Thank you, Kate Woods Legislative Director Congressman Doc Hastings office (WA-04) (202) 225-5816
