This is an example of how correlation does not equal causation. Its entirely likely that people who are in poor health are more likely to try to improve their health by becoming vegetarian, not that eating vegetarian results in poorer health. The article says, for example, Vegetarians reported higher levels of impairment from disorders, chronic diseases, and “suffer significantly more often from anxiety/depression.” ...Subjects who consumed lower amounts of animal fat were also linked to poor health care practices, such as avoidance of vaccinations and a lack of preventive care. That suggests to me that its the lack of preventive care and vaccination that produce the poorer health, not the avoidance of meat. Both might arise from a cluster of attitudes (mistrust of Western medicine, etc.) Who knows how sick these folks might be if they didnt get preventive care and they ate tons of red meat? Yet most people reading this article will conclude that eating a vegetarian diet CAUSES poorer health.
