This is an in-your-face discussion about the real history of the United States, slavery, and British colonization. It is not the version that promotes Western society and everything that goes along with it as good. It also talks about the difference between slavery before British colonization began when it was based on things other than skin color, and afterwards when it became based on skin color. There is an excellent discussion about the divisions that happened between American settlers and the British crown, and that led to the Revolutionary War...things the never tell you in history class. They argue that British cities enjoyed so much profit from the slave trade that racism may be, unfortunately, a silent and unconscious part of its culture. I could never teach history in high school, because this is the perspective that gets censored....the perspective of Africans and Native Americans over the last few centuries. Since I studied the ancient Maya and colonization and religion in college, I got to hear about this stuff non-stop for about ten years. This is the best documentary that I have ever seen that shows the story of America from those who did not profit from its growth, but were absolutely critical to the success of the colonies. Like Paul Harvey would say, and now, for the rest of the story.
