This is an inspirational poem from one of our clients about letting go of our stories. The Story of "Me" Sometimes feeling trapped Inside a shell A story echoes through these chambers A personal hell A voice Who am I? It asks itself It answers itself with a story The sounds reverberate The walls shake and expand and contract and shake and expand and contract the voice speaks to itself and all that matters to it is the story the story must go on it says name place time memories of hurts joys loves hatreds dreams desires intentions memories of images of this body in different places at different times moving in different ways change Memories flood through these chambers Wishing they would drown the story they only make it stronger In the corner there is a telescope Looking into the future Trying to predict Trying to control Trying to predict Trying to control The story wants to be protected Without the story Who am I? Snap! A branch falls Hurts Arm throbbing Blood trickling The story must go on The voice says Whoosh! A bee stings Stings Skin swelling Pain spreading The story must go on The voice says Ouch! A hurtful word A hurtful act Stings The story must go on The voice says Old age Loneliness Frustration Fear The story must go on The story must go on The voice says Every experience Is woven by the voice into the story of "me" The voice insists The voice persists The voice weaves day and night day and night day and night Where is it? This voice. This story of "me". Can it be shown? What is its taste? its feel? its smell? its sound? Where is this story? Nowhere. And yet. It weighs on us Like a thousand elephants A ball and chain Shackling us Pinning us to the brick wall that is our past The story fears death because Without the story Who am I? ... ... ... ... The truth is... The question is part of the story.
