This is an interesting article. I know I have my favorite go-to words when I am writing, much like I have my personal fallback dialogue when speaking. What really intrigued me though was who of my friends has a word that I hijacked and tried to make it mine. Well, at first I thought it was going to be hard to nail it, but truthfully it only took me like 6 seconds to figure out... I cannot type or say the word, hilarious, without thinking of Ann. It is impossible because when I say it, and I use it far more often now than I use to, it is not uncommon for me to hear the word in her voice in my head. I have such a profound awareness that I have stolen her word that when I think about it in my own sentence, I hear it in her voice. It seems only fitting because it is her word after all. This reminds me of the little video clip that jumped around the internet not too long ago. It showed a young boy negotiating with his mother to get something that he wanted. I do not remember everything, but I remember as he was speaking to her that he had learned this dialogue from watching it successfully work for someone else. “Linda, Linda listen to me…” Does it bother you more when you discover someone has borrowed words from your personal list of words, or when your recognized that you hijacked someone else’s, or are you like me and think it is fascinating how words get passed around, grabbed and dumped?
