This is an interesting one. This shot of a Russian AN-2 was taken at a Air Force air museum in Southern California. The aircraft, nicknamed “Annie” was used in combat services in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The aircraft originally was built for utility/agricultural uses and modified during the war with two torpedoes under the wing. It was difficult to detect due to its low altitude flight and even when detected, it was difficult to intercept because the plane’s cruising speed was between 84 and 99 miles per hour, well below the landing speed of a jet aircraft during the war.
