This is an interesting take on legalism. Im not so interested in the subject of modesty but in my experience in legalistic circles, legalists elevate a variety of spiritual pursuits to the level of idolatry. The idol ultimately becomes spirituality. Im reminded of a situation that came up when I dropped my then 11 year old daughter off at summer camp. They issued her a button with her name on it and I pinned it to her blouse. I was walking her to her cabin with a lady Id never seen walked up to my daughter and stood so close to her as to shield my daughter with her body. She informed us that we needed to relocate the pin as it wasnt placed appropriately. It seemed she was attempting to physically shield the general population from this breach of protocol. Apparently, I had unknowingly compromised my prepubescent daughters modesty by placing her pin too close to the area where she would eventually have breasts. I wanted to scream at this woman to keep her legalism away from my kid. What kind of sick mind do you have to have to be so focused on the pin placement of flat chested girls? I believe their hyper-sensitivity to these things creates a very unhealthy fascination that would not otherwise exist. They create immodesty where there is none and undoubtedly they create lust - the very thing they are trying to avoid - in the process.
