This is an old story of a a bureaucrat serving in the Land Records division of the Govt Of Assam.......he had to handle cases relating to ownership disputes and his judgement ,more often than not ,used to be the final word on the subject......one evening ,one of his deputies called on him with a huge packet of sweets.....this wasnt the norm in those days but the Deputy insisted they were for his two sons as a token of goodwill.....so the father accepted......as the sweets were taken inside,the two kids were very excited and immediately opened the packet and started consuming them.......after about an hour or so,the Deputy got up to leave.....somehow ,he managed to convey to the bureaucrats wife,that the sweets were actually sent by one MR X ,whose case was awaiting judgement at the bureacrats table and that a favorable judgement was requested with a promise of more goodies subsequently...... Later on .after dinner ,the lady of the house told her husband about the packet of sweets.....he immediately called for the packet.....there were about 10 pieces left.....his wife told him that the children had already consumed some pieces.....he called for his sons and asked them to immediately recollect how many they had eaten each...... The next morning,he instructed his driver to buy that many number of sweets which the kids had eaten,make up the whole and return the packet to his deputys place with an aptly written thank you note......The shocked Deputy managed a posting soon after..... In todays era,this sounds far-fetched ,almost like a fairy tale.....but this is a true story.....I cant be wrong for that bureaucrat happened to be my father....late Shri Bidyadhar Bhuyan.......and the two kids are self and my brother.......miss you Deuta......
