This is an open letter to my colleagues at the United Nations who - TopicsExpress

This is an open letter to my colleagues at the United Nations who until Friday are represented by Local 45 IBEW. Marlow Saady Phil Mango. I never imagined that the United Nations Radio and Television would fall victim to the same corporate outsourcing that has been seen in commercial broadcasting. The news about the lay off at U.N. Radio-TV has disturbed me greatly. I had thought that IBEW 1212 would have fought harder, especially in a union town like New York. I understand from my shop out here (IATSE) that strikes do not work, but I had expected more. Technology has as you guys know has made it so that a Chicago PBS station could be run from Atlanta and a Seattle Duopoly can also run the Portland, Ore sister station. As brief (in relative terms) as my time at the United Nations was, it was some of the most fun I ever had in broadcasting. When I can remember every details of the shows, the people and even the theme music to this day (and cannot recall what I eat for breakfast) you know it was special. I also know we made a difference. BUt that was then, this is now. I am certain that you will both find happiness and comfort with whatever happens. If you are able to survive without the UN you should deny these bastards your experience and knowledge. A big middle finger (Fonguol) would be the best response if they offer you work at the lower rate. This is not surprising but still upsetting. Never forget how much I respect you both and how I am only sorry I did not take the ride with you. As it says on the seal of the Great State of New York, EXCELSIOR. Much love, Rachel. P.S. Marlow, once before you go...Mettez le jingle.
