This is both astonishing and encouraging news, and, as Sally Bagshaw said, a down payment in the right direction. Huge credit goes to our partners in the Downtown Seattle Association and other business groups who lobbied the council hard along with homeless advocates. Sally Clark, as chair of the human services committee and the Councilmember representative to CEHKC, has once again shown that she is out of step with the communities she represents and needs to be replaced. For the record, what I told Beekman was that the ask of $500k to support unsheltered task force recommendations and another $500k for shelter expansion represented in the Center City Initiative ask was probably our best case scenario. That we did a little better than this, I think, is a measure of the broad support that exists for expanding services to more fully meet the need.
