This is brief but, very good information ... or at least, it gives you a great intro lesson on the instruments in a capital surgical kit, and their uses. For a more in-depth study of period battlefield medicine, you can find almost all of the books on Google Books. A couple good titles to look up are: Hand-Book of Surgical Operations by Stephen Smith, Surgeon of Bellevue Hospital, 1863 The Science and Art of Surgery (both volumes) by Dr. John Erichsen, 1860 The Principles and Practice of Modern Surgery by Robert Druitt, 1860 If you would like a more, in-depth list of period medical manuals (including topics outside of surgery), please feel free to PM through facebook, and Ill send you some information! When Im done with you, youll be ready to render care 1860s style ... really! Your Obedient Servant, Jimmy Doc Nelson Resident Medical Geek Western Federal Blues
