This is despicable to the max. I now completely understand why OSU graduates should be excluded from polite society and good jobs across Oklahoma. My Mvskoke great-great-grandfathers family was forced sell their store in what is now Dudleyville, Alabama. Two of his siblings died on the forced trek west. You can see that disgraceful, racist acts of this type might be a bit personal for me. Heres what was written about this utterly disgusting behavior: Behavior like this from educated people is nauseating. Before the white, middle-class readers start decrying our culture of political correctness, let’s have a history lesson. The Trail of Tears is what we call the forced relocation of American Indians after the Indian Removal Act of 1830. More than 45,000 people were forced from their homes, stripped of all property, and marched across the country. And as easy as it is to sit here, far removed and almost 200 years later, and think of this as some kind of hike, it wasn’t. These people weren’t just walking around awhile. Thousands — including women and children — died of exposure and disease. Historians now refer to this event as a “death march.” The Trail of Tears was one of the many events in an overarching genocide in America. People were intentionally exposed to smallpox. American soldiers cut fetuses out of pregnant Indian women. They rounded up hundreds of people and slaughtered them. Is this still funny? Maybe if you are completely ignorant of the past. But guess what? These fans are students. In Oklahoma, American history is required in elementary school, in middle school, in high school, and in college. Oklahoma State’s American history classes are packed with hundreds of students at a time. Professors lift the veil and let students know how despicably Americans treated the Indians. These people, smiling and holding up their pistols, don’t get to claim ignorance. No students at this school get to claim ignorance. They are knowingly making fun of victims of genocide. Who is laughing?
