This is exactly the reason why Camp Cocker Rescue does not use professional transport services that specialize in moving huge volumes of animals in trucks (some use uhauls, which is even worse for no climate control or air supply). It is a breath of fresh air to see someone actually speaking up on Facebook to point out how professional transporters make profit at the expense of putting animals through cruel and inhumane transports. Whenever we have spoken up about these situations, there is always backlash for us. Many rescuers will defend their choice to send animals on long ground transports like this because they say it is better than an animal dying in a shelter. Actually, it is not better. Many animals can die a tortuous death from lack of oxygen in a packed overheated vehicle, where they are stacked into small crates and deprived food/water/walks for more than 24 hours at a time. This situation is not an anomoly, but rather it is the norm for many ground transports where high volumes of animals are transported across the country, across state lines, country lines. Please do not support these bad rescues that do mass transports of dogs. They might tell you the animals are traveling safely but it is nothing of the sort. Too many donors are getting duped into supporting these mass transports and it simply is inhumane to put any animal through suffering like this. Please speak up when you see mass transports being organized and do it for the animals who cannot speak up for themselves.
