This is fascinating. It is the story of how some British officers betrayed the UK giving Japan vital information to build their Naval Air power and the key information for capturing Singapore and attacking Pearl Harbor. The British government knew about it all the way to the top. But not even Churchill wanted to act decisively to stop the scheme. It resulted in Pearl Harbor as well and the British were very well aware of it by then. By the time they finally intervened, their own empire had been badly mauled and a great many British and American POW’s were dying in Japanese internment camps. One of the officers involved was a British aristocrat and was never significantly punished beyond what amounted to a slap on the wrist. The two main reasons that nothing meaningful was done to stop this are that the British spies were overly concerned about revealing sources and methods and the size of the betrayal, carried out by people Churchill knew personally, was an embarrassment that the British government could not admit to. This is roughly analogous to what Jezail believes is happening to this day from the South Asia desk of the Department of State. That no one addresses the tremendous contradictions of US policy and multiple treacheries of Pakistan is stunning. This documentary may help explain what is going on.
