This is for Sams Club members: I have been a member since they - TopicsExpress

This is for Sams Club members: I have been a member since they opened a store in Hot Springs but have only now learned this, passing it along in the hope of helping others avoid the frustration and irritation. My membership renews in September. I got the renewal notice, wrote the check and had it all ready to mail but decided to drop it off on my next trip. So last Tuesday (September 2) as I was leaving the store I handed the envelope to the lady at the customer service desk, who had a line of people waiting but took the envelope. Went back to Sams with Mom yesterday as we were leaving Hot Springs and pulled up to the gas pump to put gas in her car, but my card was rejected and said please renew. So I went in, waited in line for the ONE customer service rep, and when my turn came I explained my problem. He took my card, verified that it had expired (duh), looked to see whether there was a record of receiving my payment. I told him about giving it to the person last week, and he was mystified as to what could have happened. When I got home I checked my bank account and saw that the check had not cleared. So this morning I called Sams and was told that they could not process my check without my signing their little machine (the one they use for credit and debit cards) personally. She said I should not have simply given the envelope to the woman at the desk, I should have stood in line, given her my payment, and signed the machine. My next question was well, what if I had mailed it? To which she replied that payments received by mail take 6-8 weeks to process. She had no answer to my next question, which was how long they planned to wait before telling me why my payment had not cleared and why they couldnt have given me a call to tell me I needed to sign, or why the guy yesterday couldnt have told me that (I know the answer to that--he would have had to look for it and he was the only one at the desk, with a line of people waiting). So tomorrow I will go BACK to Hot Springs to sign the machine so my payment will process and let me put gas in Moms car and finish my shopping. (I will also take care of the other things we didnt get done for various reasons. But thats another rant.) Bottom line: If you mail your membership renewal to Sams, send it a couple of months early if you plan to shop there. If you pay in person, stand in line until you can sign the machine so they will accept your payment. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
