This is for all you who have your panties in a twist about saying Happy Holidays versus Merry Christmas. Christmas replaced the Saturnalia festival of the Romans and the Yuletide festival of the Germanic pagans. Yule or Yuletide (Yule time) is a pagan religious festival observed by the historical Germanic peoples, later being absorbed into and equated with the Christian festival of Christmas. Saturnalia-----held on the 17th of December of the Julian calendar and later expanded with festivities through to the 23rd of December. The holiday was celebrated with a sacrifice at the Temple of Saturn, in the Roman Forum, and a public banquet, followed by private gift-giving, continual partying, and a carnival atmosphere that overturned Roman social norms: gambling was permitted, and masters provided table service for their slaves.[1] The poet Catullus called it the best of days. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturnalia
