This is for everyone not of the Jewish faith and not aware of its traditions. I got this information from our friend Joyce Frommer. The funeral service at the chapel can range from 30 - 45 minutes which is conducted by a rabbi and include brief comments from family and friends. The chapel is not orthodox so men and women can sit together. After the service, we make our way to the cemetery. There will be a very brief period for last prayers at the cemetery. Harolds grandson, Chad, posted that there will be Shiva on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 2 - 8pm. Shiva is a way of paying respect to the family and to the memory of our beloved Harold. This will be good for the people who will not be able to attend the funeral. If you are coming for Shiva, please dont bring flowers. If you are inclined to bring something, bring food instead. (with the exclusion of any pork or shellfish). Ive been told cookies or the like are a good choice. The food is not required to be kosher. Please, DO NOT bring food to the funeral service. Im sorry that what Ive written above sounds so clinical. I just want it to be informational. Tomorrow, although we say farewell to Harold, for me its not to mourn his passing but to celebrate his exemplary life. Yes, we will have tears but along those tears we will remember more of his incredible spirit and how blessed we are that we got to know him. For me, its not goodbye. Its so long for now.
