This is for everyone whos asked what I actually do on Archer. In this Entertainment Weekly link our AD, Neal Holman, describes the process of creating the scene for Archer. Back when I was in the background department and I was assigned this sequence. We typically start with a 3D render, which is something I am very involved with since joining our new 3D department and taking on more of the initial background work. This particular render was from our partners at Trinity Animation, who have been working on the show since season 1, and it is a really nice shot. I made a few requested changes, tweaked the lighting a bit, did some standard things to bring it into the Archer style, and then added missing elements by hand. There is a nice background of mountains outside the windows in this sequence, as well as all the weird toys left scattered about after the fun and games. Coming up with ideas for odd details like that is often left up to the background artists and adds some fun to the job. Of course, it’s all layered for animation so the characters can be added afterward. Enjoy!
