This is for my East Cobb friends. I stumbled across a page full of people describing East Cobb to those whove never lived here. Ive noted a few comments below. Do you agree with this assessment? Do you see any truth here? I moved to East Cobb a few years ago when I went back to school and can tell you that you are wasting your time if you are a 20-something. You will spend most of your time driving back into Atlanta to do anything. . Ive heard people here say that suburbs are for raising kids and they shouldnt have to cater to those without kids. These people make a community not worth defending. East Cobb was carved out of the hillsides in the 70s and 80s when city design was at the height of doing it wrong, and it shows. The architecture is a joke. East Cobb has no plan or civic design. There is only car culture and mass consumption. I suppose that is true for all suburbs, though. Instead of civic minded communal areas, we are left with The Avenues and the like. The only parks or public lands you will find are mostly sports fields. Forget about walking or biking trails, many dont exist in East Cobb, except for the tiny trail at East Cobb park, the end of Columns drive and a few bike lanes on the extremely dangerous streets. (Everyone in East Cobb drives like you are the enemy and youd better get out of their way, doesnt matter if youre in a car, walking, or biking.) You wont find any worthwhile cultural events or festivals. I havent found any farmers markets in the area, and no, I dont think Whole Foods counts. Ive also not found any locally owned non-chain restaurants and stores, because the people here wont shop from them. Priorities are way out of whack, and nobody seems to care. This lack of community has created inconsiderate people that dont have much empathy. From the ones Ive worked with, theyre big concern is over which brandname company built their house. Pulte, KB, DR Horton, etc. Never have I lived anywhere, especially the suburbs, where the builder of a subdivision was treated like a well known brandname. Just shows the value system of the residents..... There were many other comments along these lines. Those who dont live here seem to think were superficial, money-loving, status conscious snobs whos values are reflected in the rushed, rude, jerks who populate our roads. While I dont agree with some of the comments these people made, theres enough truth here that an honest resident should stop to think about what kind of community we really have. [Kim speaks again and will certainly lose more friends for it. Eh...what else is new?]
