This is from Mastic Beach Dep. Mayor Bruce Summa: January 14 at 7:39am · Edited · Greetings from Village Hall-----MAYOR BIONDI WILL NOT RUN FOR OFFICE THIS YEAR! LAWSUIT WITH M.B.P.O.A. SETTLED! Yesterday, January 12th, Mayor Biondi disclosed to a reporter from the Advance that neither himself nor Deputy Mayor Busa will be running to retain their seats on the board. According to reporter Peggy Hoey, Deputy Mayor Busa is quoted as saying that his reason for not running is that it was an embarrassment to serve on the board with me because of my constant bickering with the Mayor. Really? Well, youre entitled to your opinion but I would respectfully disagree. I do not think that the people that elected Maura Spery and myself elected us to be bobble-heads approving things that are never properly vetted to us or with adequate time for review. For example, at every meeting, up until three to four months ago, Maura and I would receive our agendas for the meeting, literally minutes before the meeting started making it impossible to review and understand the financial data we were being asked to vote on.. In addition, the meeting minutes were never posted online sometimes for months when now they are posted within two weeks. Disagreement is the foundation of our democratic process. I guess I was supposed to roll-over and be a yes man. For whatever their true reasons may be for stepping down, I wish them personal success in whatever they do or wherever they go. In other news the Board of Trustees voted to end the lawsuit with the Mastic Beach Property Owners Association by accepting a compromise with a 3 - 2 vote in favor. The village will receive 6.5 miles of shoreline as park lands to maintain for the residents recreational use as well as Marina 5 which is a 74 slip Marina which will be repaired and developed by the village. The lawsuit has been ongoing for four years and has twice been dismissed for summary judgement. There are also hundreds of thousands of dollars of repair money, in jeopardy of being lost, if this suit was not settled. Ed Hennessey stated, when he was our Assemblyman, that the single most factor in keeping money from flowing from Albany to our village was this lawsuit. There is a vociferous faction of our residents who are very upset with this settlement and are filing ethics violation charges against me because I have been a member of the MBPOA for 30 years and have voted the way I did for personal gain. Its assinine but everyone has the right to file a complaint and the new ethics board will decide. The truth is, is that a MAJORITY of the Board of Trustees reviewed the benefits and liabilities of the settlement and thought that this was a good deal for the residents and voted 3 to 2 to accept the compromise. REMEMBER, go to Thenewhorizonsparty and make a donation to our party and lets continue with moving our village forward by electing Maura Spery as Mayor and Anne Snyder and Joe Knight as Trustees. God Bless
