This is from a booklet I wrote two years ago on the 50th anniversary of my fathers death. Dad (Chris Corrigan) started work at the Pembroke beer store on July 8th, 1940. In August 1947, he had written the following article for the Brew-Re-Tales: The Canadian Pulp & Paper Corporation and Forestry Branch, had a little get together at Petawawa, at which they exhibited all different kinds of heavy machinery, including all types of trucks, tractors, diesel engines and a helicopter. Most important was the refreshment booths (all brands of beer) at 20 cents a pint, and about every hour they gave a free round. When Dad was working at Breshnahans beer store in Pembroke, he would often pick up a small case for one of the priests at Cathedral, since it wouldnt be proper for a priest to be seen in the store. Then on Dads way home from work (to Moffat St), he would pass the case over the fence at the side of the Cathedral Rectory. On St Patricks Day, Grandma Corrigan would make Dad wear a green tie to work, much to his chagrin. Any time Dad got a raise or a promotion, Grandma Corrigan would write a thank you letter, on behalf of her son, and make sure that Christie sent it to his superiors.
